Careers Educational Programme

Longcroft School & Sixth Form College is committed to providing high-quality careers guidance to our pupils and students. This commitment is underpinned by our values of Great Heart, Thought & Vision.

Great Heart reminds us of the diversity of our community and the extent to which we believe that a well-structured, stable and reflective career development programme can help to promote personal well-being, raise aspirations, and improve the life chances of our pupils.

We give Great Thought to how to best structure a programme to meet the needs of our young people, reflecting on what is successful and adapting the programme in the light of its outcomes and impacts on pupils and students.

Finally, with Great Vision, we create a programme that seeks to open new horizons for our pupils and students, either within themselves through becoming aware of their potential futures or by creating opportunities for them to develop increased awareness of employers and educational providers.

We believe that every young person needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future. Good career guidance helps inspire pupils towards further study and enables them to make informed decisions whenever choices are open to them. It helps them to understand enough about the world of work to know what skills they need to succeed.

Therefore, Longcroft School and Sixth Form College has a commitment to provide high quality careers guidance for all pupils and students in Years 7 – 13 that prepares and inspires our young people.

In light of this, we recently launched our Careers Development Programme which coordinates the ways in which we act to support our pupils' and students' understanding of the world of work, and of the options and pathways open to them. This Careers Development Programme is detailed in the Careers Education Policy below.

Employers Information

Here at Longcroft we work with a range of employers and organisations to help in the delivery of our careers programme. Within our programme there are numerous opportunities to meet and engage in meaningful conversations with employers and employees. We believe that in giving pupils these opportunities, they will deepen their understanding of the importance of skills, personal qualities and academic success required to be successful in whatever career path they enter. We pride ourselves on the integrated, comprehensive nature of our developing careers programme that reflects our shared values of Great Heart, Thought & Vision.

Pupil Information

As a pupil at Longcroft, you can expect to receive a range of support regarding your future careers journey. This includes support from your form tutor, or delivered through PSHE lessons, as well as a range of extra-curricular opportunities to give you ideas and guidance.

We will provide you with lots of information about the world of work as well as about your options post-16 and post-18. We will provide opportunities for you to meet with employers and education providers, and will support your own research into your future career direction.

Pupils should use the LogOnMoveOn platform as their starting point for careers research. This is available here. This has a wealth of advice and information about the options available to you.
